Right around the same time each year, TheGoodLife! can no longer resist the lure of the mountains, so we pack our things, say goodbye to our loved ones, and make an epic trek to the wild wild west. This year we partnered with our friends at Subaru again, first joining them for an alpine adventure weekend at Jackson Hole, Wyoming and then journeying through the Rockies of Colorado in their brand new 2013 XV Crosstrek. Like our Outback from last year, the Crosstrek more than handled the trip. From accommodating two weeks worth of snowboarding equipment to boldly treading across Vail Pass in a blizzard in the dead of night, it passed every test. Our recommendation – get the five speed manual. OK, without further introduction, please enjoy our Mile High Tour in photos by Craig Wetherby and text by Tim Brodhagen. Arrived in cowboy country x shred heaven: Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Not only were the trees proper…
The food was on another level, literally! Dining on Mussels and drinking Brunello at 9,095 feet at Couloir on top of the mountain is straight bucket list material.
It wasn’t just shredding and eating, we took a break to help out with Subaru’s puppy adoption. Here’s Subaru and GoPro professional kayaker Shon Bollock getting some love.
Not content to keep it on the resort, we also took a snow shoe tour through the Tetons.
Where we were rewarded with views like this.
But shit can get real out there real quick!
Not more than a hundred yards from that sign, our guide found these bear claw scratch marks on a tree!
So we got the hell out of there!
Because night comes fast in the mountains.
Then it was time to pack again.
And head to our next destination…
Our waiting chariot in Denver just happened to be the exact same color as the taxi’s – Blaze Orange baby! People were trying to hail us all day.
We didn’t come to Colorado to play cabbie so we hit the road.
But it can still get gnarly even in clear conditions.
At least one trucker found out the hard way.
But the Crosstrek handled the roads and soon we were at our destination: Copper Mountain.
Sunny, snowy, and warm – it was beautiful to say the least.
We found some fun zones in the woods.
Then it was time to change for the next part of the adventure. The Subie’s back gate doubles as a perfect bench.
Woodward at Copper. The place is amazing!
Foam pits! You can really step up your progression here, having access to a facility like this is a game changer.
Fully worked from all the shredding at Jackson and Copper, it was time for us to turn our attention on Aspen for TheGoodLife! x Sailor Jerry Cabin, a secret hideaway for those in the know, hosted by us.
The Cabin was bananas! TheGoodLife! familia was out in full force. Here’s Trouble Andrew and Major Lazer, go here for a full look inside the cabin.
Diplo got a new tattoo from Downtown Terry Brown while maintaining his loyalty to Blackberry. Yes they still make those.
Peter Line got his first tattoo – of his dog’s name – Parnell.
Stevie Bell got shaped up from OG Kev of Frank’s Chop Shop.
There were fancy drinks. This is called the Sunday Bloody Sunday and includes Sailor Jerry, spicy beans, dill baby pickles, pickled okras, stuffed olives, pickled brussel sprouts, carmelized bacon and candied pecans, what?!. Go here for the recipe.
And Bun B and his wife got matching hearts for their ten year anniversary.
Once all the fun was over and it was time to head back to the city, the snow gods decided to open up the skies. Good thing we had the Subie.
The warning signs were everywhere.
So we initiated the Crosstrek’s lightspeed capabilities.
Even the fuzz couldn’t handle it.
But the Crosstrek trekked on through. You got to love 5 speed manual and AWD.
And when we saw the tunnel, we knew we were going to make it!
