“Have as much fun as possible!” was the motto that Jake Burton lived by so that’s exactly what we did! What has now become an annual tradition, A Day for Jake, is a global celebration of the life and legacy of Jake Burton Carpenter, a true pioneer of the sport of snowboarding. The love and passion that Jake had for life and the spirit he embodied has influenced and paved the way for a global community of snowboarders that can now enjoy life to the fullest on mountain tops all over the planet. He wouldn’t have had it any other way. Thank YOU Jake!
As the date approached, we spread the word to our NYC based snowboard community that we were going to head up North to link with our Vermont fam to get a few more days of what we thought would be some nice Spring riding. We were wrong. Jake and the Snow Gods had a different plan for us because we were gifted with over a foot of snow just in time for our arrival. We couldn’t have timed it any better as the Green Mountains of Northern Vermont were painted white with a late season storm that started right as we left Brooklyn. The plan was to visit Bolton Valley, Stowe and Jay Peak and our mission was accomplished. Our friends at Ride Vermont welcomed us with the finest hospitality and accommodations at each resort. Our crew consisted of a mix of New Yorkers and local Vermonters and it was a proper reunion! First stop was Bolton Valley for the Chill Takeover where we had lodging right at the base and the entire mountain to ourselves. The fresh powder seemed endless as parts of the mountain opened up right as the storm settled down so we got the goods! Next stop was Stowe for another powderific day of exploring and enjoying! We then made our way up to Jay Peak where the snow accumulated to a healthy total of 2+ feet overnight so the stashes were abundant there as well. What a trip!
Enjoy the rest of our journey in film photos by Tomas Ruprecht & Craig Wetherby. #RideOnJake
