As we now say goodbye to 2023, it’s with great pride that this year we celebrated the 10 Year Anniversary of Camp Nice!
Each year a select group of our favorite city dwelling nature lovers have gathered in the woods to send off Summer and welcome the beginning of Fall.
Over the last decade, Camp Nice has become an annual highlight for so many of us to live, laugh and love together in the outdoors and form bonds that will last a lifetime. After this long, it’s now hard to imagine life without it, as so many campers look forward to that time in September when the days start to get a little shorter, the nights a bit cooler and we can all circle around the campfire in our favorite hoodies and beanies to warm our souls with wonderful food and friendship. Refreshments abound, with cheers a plenty and a communal feeling of joy and gratitude spreads across camp. It’s this alliance of widely varied yet like-minded people and personalities that Camp Nice has always assembled that produces some of the best times of our lives.
As always, it wouldn’t be possible without the support of our generous partners who help make things extra nice. Vans came through with their timeless sneakers, MTE hiking boots, handy fanny packs, duffle bags and T-shirts so we could get crafty with screen printing and tie-dyes. Alpha Industries outfitted the Rangers with stylish tactical gear and Coal Headwear hooked up the beanies to help us get through those chilly nights outside. Adler Tools provided the heavy equipment to chop up firewood, and Überleben gave us the right tools to earn fire badges legit. Yeti mugs and water bottles made sure everyone stayed hydrated, the ice was cold and the tea stayed hot. Cocojune, Cheeky Sandwiches, Grillo’s Pickles and Queen Majesty Hot Sauce kept the crew well fed, nourished and nicely spiced. While Fat Tire, Matchbook Distilling, Montelobos Mezcal, Espolon Tequila and Ancho Reyes had the beers and cocktails overflowing at Rickster’s each and every night. And what would we have done without Alte, keeping everyone properly medicated and recreated with an endless supply of New York’s finest legal cannabis products.
Speaking of Rickster’s, a Lazy Hustler shout out to all the guest DJ’s who kept the vibes right and the dance floor tight. DJ Smoke L.E.S., Jasmine Solano, Willy Soul, Disgonuts & Omer Mil of the Funky Seshwa Crew, Waichi, Angel + Dren, Queen Majesty, and B Kool crushed the newly constructed log DJ booth with an eclectic mix of music that had the joint jumpin’ ’til the early morn, while the morning and afternoon hours were filled with the smooth sounds of Camp Nice radio hosted by Alte’s Max Klaw broadcasting out of the Ranger Station, complete with a dispensary and espresso bar. Daytime activities ranged from morning WellNice yoga workshops hosted by Miriam + Chenoah, woodworking stool building class with Jessie Nelson, tennis lessons with Jasmine Solano and skateboard sessions on the new mini ramp to the traditional boating, hiking, fishing, bocce ball, archery, arts & crafts and custom Camp Nice flash tattoos by Bob Nelson. Of course, just relaxing in a hammock and soaking in the peaceful melodies of the wilderness is always encouraged as well.
Thank you to all of our Camp Nice alumni over the last ten years, we could not have done it without you. Every single one of you makes camp the incredible collective that it has always been, and we look forward to welcoming everybody back for at least another ten.
